This Sunday Texas had its worst mass shooting in state history. In total 26 people were killed, half of them kids and another 20 people are injured some very seriously who may also die. It happened after a gunman dressed in tactical gear walked into the church service of First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas and started shooting everyone. America is still reeling. If you’re not safe in a place of worship where are you safe exactly? Many world leaders have reached out with messages, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, as Conservative Institute reports.

Japan’s Shinzo Abe, Saudi leader King Salman bin Abdulaziz and many others sent their condolences for the awful attack, and so did Putin, who wanted to reach out with compassion during this polarized time of political relations between the US and Russia with a simple message of condolence.

The shooting was done by 26-year-old Devin Kelley. After killing many people he apparently tried to take a hostage and flee, but a local man with a rifle came and shot Kelley in a gap of his body armor in the torso and legs. Kelley fled to his vehicle and drove off. The man then teamed up with another hero to drive after the coward Kelley, whose car eventually went off the road and he then shot and killed himself.

Sutherland Springs where the shooting took place has less than 500 people in it and this attack has torn families apart. The past of First Baptist Frank Pomeroy lost his 14-year-old daughter Annabelle.

A motive is not yet known, although Kelley may have had a dispute with his mother-in-law who sometimes attended the church but wasn’t there that morning. He also frequently went on rants about his atheist beliefs and how stupid he believed Christians are, so that is also being investigated. He’d had a previous record for assaulting his wife and young baby while in the Air Force and was confined for a year and dishonorably discharged in 2014 with a reduction in rank for that crime.

All information so far is that Kelley was not legally allowed to carry a firearm, as the state of Texas turned him down, so the idea this could be solved by gun control is now off the table.

“By all the facts that we seem to know, he was not supposed to have access to a gun. So how did this happen?” Texas Governor Greg Abbott asked.

It’s a heartbreaking time in America. It’s good to know the world stands with us, including Vladimir Putin.
